Terms of service
Last updated: 5 May 2026
These terms set out the contract between you and Elitesgen Academy when you use the Egen Games platform. Read them carefully; they cover everything from prize-money escrow to dispute resolution.
1. Acceptance of terms
These terms govern your use of the Egen Games platform at egengames.com and any related subdomains, mobile apps, and APIs (collectively, the "platform"). Egen Games is operated by Elitesgen Academy from Lagos, Nigeria.
By creating an account, registering for an event, or running an event on the platform, you agree to these terms in full. If you don't agree, please don't use the platform.
2. Eligibility
To open an organizer account, you must be at least 18 years old and have legal authority to bind the organization you are registering on behalf of (a school, club, academy, gym, or community group).
Minors may participate as athletes only via a verified parent or guardian profile. The guardian is treated as the account holder for the minor's data. Minor profiles default to private and are not searchable in the public directory.
We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that don't meet these eligibility rules.
3. Account responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for safeguarding the credentials that access your account. Egen Games uses phone-number plus one-time password (OTP) sign-in by default; keep the registered SIM secure.
Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access. You remain responsible for activity on your account until we process a reported compromise.
4. Organizer obligations
When you run an event on Egen Games, you commit to the following:
- Publish accurate event information: dates, venue, divisions, entry fees, prize structure, and rules of play.
- Hold any permits, insurance, and venue authorizations that Nigerian law requires for your event.
- Honour the prize money you advertise. Prize pools above ₦5,000,000 must be funded into the platform escrow before registrations open.
- Run scoring fairly. Use the platform's scoring tools as designed; corrections are made by appending a new ScoreEntry, never by silently editing past records.
- Respect athlete data. You may use registration data only to run your event, contact participants about that event, and comply with legal obligations.
5. Athlete obligations
When you register for an event, you commit to the following:
- Provide truthful information about your age, sport history, and (where the event requires) your federation or school affiliation.
- Comply with the anti-doping declarations the event organizer requires. Some events require a signed athlete consent before bracket draw.
- Follow the event code of conduct on and off the field of play. Verbal abuse, threats, and physical violence are grounds for immediate disqualification and platform-wide suspension.
- Settle entry fees by the published deadline. Slots are not held without payment.
6. Payments
All payments on Egen Games are processed by Paystack and settled in Nigerian Naira (NGN). We don't store full card numbers; the card tokenization happens at Paystack's PCI-DSS environment.
For organizer payouts, we settle to a registered Nigerian bank account in your organization's name. Standard settlement window is 3 to 5 working days after the event closes. Higher prize-pool events may be held longer if a manual review is triggered.
Currency
Naira is the only supported currency in V1. Multi-currency (USD pilots, regional African expansion) is on the roadmap but not in this contract yet.
7. Refunds
Refund eligibility depends on when you cancel and on the event's policy. The default platform policy is documented in our refund policy. Organizers may publish a stricter or more generous policy for specific events; the event's published policy controls.
8. Minors
We treat anyone under 18 as a minor by default. Minor profiles are private until a guardian gives explicit consent for publication on a per-event basis. The full minor safeguarding policy lives at legal/minors.
9. Intellectual property
Organizers retain ownership of the brand assets, logos, schedules, and rules of their events. By publishing on Egen Games, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display this content as needed to run the event and surface it to the public.
We retain ownership of the platform itself: the codebase, design system, brand, taxonomy, scoring engines, and any aggregate analytics we derive. You may not scrape, reverse engineer, or republish bulk platform content without written permission.
10. Data ownership and export
You own the data you put into the platform: athlete profiles, event configurations, registrations, scores, and standings. We act as a processor under your direction for that data.
Organizers can export every registration, payment, and result for their events at any time. Athletes can export their own competition history. See our privacy notice for how to request a full personal data export.
11. Liability disclaimer
The platform is provided on an as-is basis. We work hard to keep it running, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access, and we don't warrant that every brackets draw or scoring algorithm will match the bespoke quirks of every federation.
Sports-injury carve-out
Athletes participate in sport at their own risk. Egen Games is a software platform, not a venue operator, medical provider, or insurer. We don't accept liability for injuries sustained at events run on the platform.
Force majeure
Neither party is liable for delays or failures caused by events outside reasonable control: power outages, internet downtime, civil disturbance, pandemic, or natural disaster.
12. Termination
You can close your account at any time. Reach out via our contact page and we will process the closure inside 5 working days. Pending settlements and obligations under existing event contracts survive closure.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms, violate Nigerian law, or pose a safeguarding risk to other users. We will give 7 days' notice where the circumstances allow.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Lagos State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), and applicable Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) payment-processing rules apply.
14. Dispute resolution
We prefer to fix issues directly. Start with our contact page; most disputes resolve inside two weeks once we see the details.
For disputes that don't resolve informally, the parties agree to binding arbitration in Lagos under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act. The seat of arbitration is Lagos, the language is English, and the tribunal is a single arbitrator appointed by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce International Arbitration Centre (LCA).
15. Changes to terms
We may update these terms as the platform grows. Material changes will be announced in-app and by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
